Comprehensive Dictionary

Japanese contains more than 170000 entries. It is based on the well-known JMdict but goes much further. 

More than 70000 example sentences from different contexts show native usage. All sentences feature readings as well as English translations for easy understanding. Tap any word to see its definition.

Only in Japanese can you find readings broken into separate syllables for every word. Easily see conjugations of all verbs, adjectives and even counters. Find out how words are composed by looking at their components or quickly jump to transitivity pairs.

Kanji also included

Japanese is also a savvy character dictionary. Simple yet beautiful full-screen animations show you proper stroke orders, information about the parts of characters give you a better understanding, and references to similar looking characters help you tell them apart. Tap on any kanji reading to see all words containing that character for that reading.

Can't read Japanese characters yet? Don't worry. All pronunciations, kanji readings and example sentences can be shown in the latin alphabet (romaji). Japanese supports all common romanization systems. Japanese also has handy kana charts to help you picking up Hiragana and Katakana.

Find conjugations

Japanese has the best search. Enter either English or Japanese to show matching entries immediately. Results are sorted by relevance, so the best match always appears at the top.

Use the Voice Recognition included in iOS to dictate single words or even whole sentences and look them up.

Conjugated forms are no problem for Japanese's search engine, entering 食べます tabemasu will bring you to the base dictionary entry 食べる taberu instantly.

Component & SKIP lookup

You don't need to learn the Japanese alphabets to search because the whole search also works with romaji:
just use the Latin alphabet to look up Japanese words.

Study easily

Japanese features an integrated flashcard learning system. The spaced repetition system adapts to your learning pace and shows difficult words more often than those you already know.

You can use any list as a source for flashcards. For example, common Japanese words or kanji taught in the 2nd school year. Japanese also includes hundreds of pre-made lists by topic like Sports, Food or Geography.
